Observational drawing can be the calming and fun place where vision and focus expand your skills with pencils, inks, pens, microns and watercolors. A place where process overcomes perfection.
For years I taught drawing at Rollins College with the STARS program. The course was about relaxation and drawing to get your brain in motion. The drawings during these classes were small and manageable. Students worked with paper that fit in the palms of their hands. I have also led fun Urban Sketch groups in Central Florida. I thoroughly enjoyed these classes and look forward to sharing online.
Ask yourself:
- Do you want to connect with nature, capture your everyday life connecting with place and season? Record interiors, exteriors, food and floral?
- Do you want to exercise a closer visual connection to what you look at and see?
- Would you like to learn how to use water paints with some of your drawings?
- Are you considering beginning a journal for 2025?
- Would you like to slow down in a way that relaxes you both mentally and physically?
- Would you like to make your own small handmade book journal from reworking a sketchbook? Would you like to work small and learn how to incorporate drawing into your life on a daily basis?
- ‘Learn ways to display, keep and share your drawings?
- No fancy art supplies required. Just come with a pencil, pen and paper. If you have supplies great, let’s get you using them. If you want to purchase supplies shared during classes resources are provided.
- Do you want to learn about tools, perspective, composition, the basics of pencil drawing, paper, charcoal, Sanguine/Sepia, ink, pastels and handmade art supplies?
- Explore line and shape warm-up drawings?
- Benefits from observational drawing - use your senses, draw from real life, eye-hand coordination, concentration, creativity, problem solving, intellectual growth and relaxation.
