Cyanotype 2, Anna’s Fern Party Dress, Unframed, 2019
A fun and dated summer party dress is painted free hand on faded white 350 lb. watercolor paper measuring 11” x 15”.
This piece is embellished with small ferns gathered from the artist’s garden. When exposed to the sun’s UV light the images of the fern are photographed by this alternative photographic process that dates back to 1842 when it was first introduced Sir John Herschel. After exposure the ferns are removed and the photographic process stopped in a water bath with hydrogen peroxide before hanging to dry.
The dress name is inspired by noted cyanotype artist Anna Adkins who was a pioneering figure in photographic history after first publishing her book of cyanotype ferns in 1843.
The piece ships free, signed and unframed.
