In many rural villages of different cultures holidays are marked by festivals revolving around centuries old folk characters. Many of these characters reflect agrarian themes.
This workshop is planned with Lent in mind. Beginning on Ash Wednesday, Lent is a season of reflection and preparation before the celebration of Easter.
During celebrations connecting to the seasons often costumes would be created with natural agrarian materials and worn in parades to battle winter’s evil spirit. Parade participants would collect offerings of cakes, eggs, flour and coin. At parades end, the disposable costumes of natural materials would be thrown into the river to wash away winter’s dead and welcome new growth.
Let the folklore, seasons and agrarian materials provide you with the opportunity to create a holiday keepsake to share happiness and good tidings for years to come while keeping the dark away.
