THE ART OF JOOMCHI AND MOMIGAMI
THE ART OF JOOMCHI AND MOMIGAMI
WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 12, AND FEBRUARY 26, 2025
7:00-8:30 PM, EST
This two day workshop will bring a fresh new and fun technique for creating with paper, stitching, book arts and more. There are so many possibilities for stand alone or incorporation of Joomchi to your art and crafting pieces.
Joomchi is a traditional Korean paper craft working to create textured handmade paper using your hands and water. Joomchi paper art dates back to the Korean Goryeo Dynasty A.D. 918-1392.
Explore ways to manipulate strong Korean mulberry Hanji papers where the strength of the paper enables one to create felted and leather like looks strong enough to support stitches, inclusions and applique.
View examples, learn history and have your questions answered along with guidance to adapt Joomchi and Momigami to your art making projects. Consider the possibilities as you view ways that the instructor has incorporated these techniques into book arts, wearable art, surface design layering, framed art and functional works.
