ARTIST BOOKS INSPIRED BY THE LADIES OF LITERATURE
ARTIST BOOKS INSPIRED BY THE LADIES OF LITERATURE
MONTHLY MEETINGS ON A TUESDAY, 7-8:30 PM EST
MARCH THROUGH DECEMBER 2025
Throughout history, some of the most influential women have been writers, poets, and essayists; breaking social barriers, challenging the status quo, and questioning the rules through the art of their writing. Their literary contributions have enriched cultural landscapes. From renowned classics to contemporary masterpieces, we will examine the legacy of famous female authors whose works continue to inspire generations.
This session is all about connecting with ladies of literature for inspiration in creating one or two handmade books over a period of eleven sessions. Each session provides for ideas, techniques and inspiration along with history and readings from some of the best known women authors. Registered students are asked to participant in class sessions and will be given assignments to complete and share in class.
What a fun way to create a handmade artist book that can be useful for providing sketching and writing prompts connecting you to the past and allowing for your contributions of the present and future. In addition, short reading assignments will allow participants to enjoy some of the work that made the authors.
Expect to learn how to make a clam shell box, learn and practice different bindings to bind and assemble your completed book or books. Your beautiful finished book art will be a reminder of the many books you have read and those to add to the reading list. Guidance will be given on ways to design your project.
Explore quick writing exercises for relaxation as your journey with the author begins. No writing experience, art experience, book making experience required only the desire to learn and enjoy the journey.
Each session will scaffold ways to embellish the page from text to artistic applications for ideas and learning opportunities for participants to enjoy incorporating into their art making.
