Relax and venture back hundreds of years ago to an artisanal community of women in ancient times looking to old, worn and waste fabrics to craft a legacy of textile artifacts that inspire artists today to create quilts, wearable arts and accessories.
Learn to stack, create storytelling motifs, mandalas, patches, pattern design, composition, contemporary and traditional slow stitches, Saree Embroidery and Kantha Bengali. Consider materials in your kit and your own additions for stitching assembled pieces.
There are so many ways to incorporate the beauty of recycled vintage and natural dyed fabrics together in ways that everyone can enjoy with easy stitching methods to joyfully stitch in this workshop. From bright shades of cochineal pinks and reds, indigo blues, turmeric golds, to deep and muted shades chestnut browns and many more your kit includes an array of choices for mixing colors or sticking to monochromatic tones. There will be patterns, prints and solids, vintage and new silks and cottons.
Examples, diagrams and fun simple projects to easily make in between classes for sharing. Start small and move towards expanded projects with confidence after spending time with a small group of lovers of thread and cloth.
Each registrant receives a kit of recycled and naturally dyed fabrics for creating a sampler that can used as a stand alone work of art, pillow, a journal cover or small clutch or shoulder bag.
The first class covers history and supplies for starting the journey of Kantha and Saree slow stitching.
